Language in Education: new center presentation
UniTrento is the leader of the Research Centre on Languages and Communicative Strategies in Education
The new centre for the study of the most effective linguistic and communicative strategies for teaching was presented at Palazzo Prodi in the presence of the university heads and representatives of the universities involved. The LinE network, led by UniTrento, comprises the universities of Bolzano, Ghent (Belgium), Innsbruck (Austria), Malta, Messina, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Padua, Parma, Turin and Verona.
Language and communication play a key role in all phases of teaching: noy only in the construction of knowledge, but also in the interaction between teacher and learner and between the learners themselves, not forgetting the evaluation of results. Some disciplines also integrate different kinds of communication, combining linguistic with visual, musical, symbolic-mathematical and others.
In order to investigate aspects of language and communicative strategies in teaching, both at school and at university, both in the mother tongue and in foreign languages, the University of Trento has set up the 'LinE - Language in Education' Centre in partnership with eleven other Italian and foreign universities. The project involves 177 scholars from different scientific disciplines: foreign and Italian Language Education, Linguistics, Mathematics, Physics, Law, Medicine, Psychology, Geography, Musicology, Art History, History and Philosophy.
"The Centre was created to promote national, international and interdisciplinary collaborations" explains the director, Fabiana Rosi. "It will deal with research, didactic experimentation and dissemination, investigating the role of language and communication in the transmission and co-construction of knowledge. The identification of the most effective linguistic and communicative strategies for teaching is a crucial issue, which involves training institutions and teachers of non-linguistic subjects".
Rosi concludes: "The process to set up LinE has been a long one, carried out with the awareness that networking and creating synergies between territories and fields of knowledge is fundamental for the quality of the proposals to the community".
It is worth mentioning that our website provides news on projects and conferences, but also specific research tools, e.g. a bibliography with over 1600 entries on 23 topics. A valuable tool for teachers interested in professional development, but also for students working on their degree or doctoral theses.
The "LinE - Language in Education" Centre is funded by CEASUM - Centre for Advanced Humanities Studies within the framework of the "Department of Excellence 2018-2022" project and the University Strategic Plan 2022-2027. The administrative seat is the Department of Humanities and Philosophy.
