Abstract
In the various curricular subjects, students come into contact with the specific languages and words of the various subject areas. Each discipline in fact possesses a specialised language, which is the typical way of expressing oneself in that field. In mathematics, language plays a fundamental role in learning processes and problem solving. In fact, mastering a discipline means not only developing content knowledge, but also being aware of the linguistic means that a language requires to express it. This conference reflects on specialised languages and in particular the specialised language of mathematics: understanding mathematical language, communicating mathematics and developing a debate on the specificity of mathematics and its language and the role of context in mathematical communication. Secondary school mathematics and Italian teachers will have the opportunity to discuss and work together to design interdisciplinary teaching activities.
